Pregnancy brings up a lot of questions. It’s full of unique experiences, as well as shared ones. And whether there’s a question you need answered, an experience you need validated or a story you want to here, there’s most certainly a pregnancy blog for you.
The best pregnancy blogs range from informative ones written by experts that prepare you for all things gestation through birth to ones that tell a variety of stories to remind you that you’re not alone.
So, depending on what kind of mom-to-be you are (or just what kind of mood you’re in) there’s a pregnancy blog out there for you.
HERE’S A RUNDOWN OF OUR FAVORITE PREGNANCY BLOGS AND WHY WE LOVE THEM.
1) IF YOU LIKE BLOGS THAT KEEP IT REAL AND MAKE YOU LAUGH
Look no further than Pregnant Chicken. Expectant moms who like to get their information about pregnancy in a realistic, friendly and funny way are the target audience for this blog. Amy Morrison, the “broad behind the burd,” started Pregnant Chicken after stumbling out of the newborn trenches with her first. She now has a solid team of editors and writers who dish out useful and fun information from pregnancy through parenthood for new moms. To give you an idea, the blogs’ most popular recent articles included 10 things no one tells you after giving birth and some hilarious memes that are essentially “porn for pregnant ladies.”
Why we love it: We love it when blogs about pregnancy just Keep. It. Real. Pregnant Chicken is able to talk about all the not-so-cute, not-so-fun parts of pregnancy (like heavy periods, exhaustion and pooping during labor) in the most straightforward funny way that keeps us laughing.
2) IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR MORE RELATABLE STORIES ABOUT PREGNANCY.
We’ve been loving Pregnant and Perfect. Despite what you think the name may imply, this blog is all about showing every angle of pregnancy and motherhood—good, bad and the ugly. Its articles range from personal essays on pregnancy and birth to helpful articles written by experts and topics with all wonder about.
Why we love it: No matter what your pregnancy or postpartum experience is or has been, you can find a relatable story here. As is our philosophy, only through sharing real stories can we all start to feel less isolated.
3) IF YOU’RE INTO ALL THINGS NATURAL.
Natural Mama is the blog for you. Founded and run by childbirth educator and seasoned YouTuber Gevevieve Howland, this blog is full of useful articles and informational videos that cover natural (read: unmedicated) labor, healthy eating and breastfeeding. New resources include a pregnancy tracker that guides you through your pregnancy week by week and due date calculator.
Why we love it: Every article and resource is medically reviewed by the blog’s team of certified nurse midwives. So, it’s information you can count on being accurate.
4) IF YOU LIKE GETTING THAT GIRLFRIEND-TO-GIRLFRIEND KIND OF INFO.
You might really relate to Pregnancy & Newborn. While it started as a print magazine, Pregnancy & Newborn now has a robust website and online community that makes you feel like you’re getting cheered on every step of the way. It’s just what expectant and new moms need to hear some times.
Why we love it: Most of its articles are just relentlessly positive. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
5) IF YOU’RE MORE INTO EVIDENCE-BASED RESEARCH.
You should subscribe to the Kelly Mom newsletter. Written by international board-certified lactation consultant Kelly Bonyata, this blog is full of evidence-based research and information on birth, breastfeeding and parenthood. She focuses heavily on the health of the mom, as well as the health of the child.
Why we love it: She has become our go-to resources for all things Covid19-related throughout pregnancy and birth. All of Kelly’s most recent articles have been super helpful in keeping up with new information and changing regulations and expectations around labor and birth.
6) IF YOU JUST WANT TO SEE A MORE REALISTIC IMAGE OF PREGNANCY.
Let us direct you to Plus Sized Birth. Founded by published author, certified childbirth educator and public speaker Jen McLellan, plus-sized birth shares a collection of birth stories, helpful resources, and evidence-based information to empower plus size people who are pregnant or trying to conceive.
Disappointed by perfect images of moms-to-be and a ton of negative information around pregnancy on the internet, Jen created the blog to share her story and help other plus size moms have positive and healthy pregnancies.
Why we love it: The blog is real, full of accurate information and an overall positive place for pregnant people with zero shame or judginess.
7) IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A HOLISTIC BIRTHING BLOG.
Look no further than Mother Rising. Born out of the blog that came alongside doula Lindsey Morrow’s childbirth education website, Mother Rising guides expectant moms to have healthy pregnancies, natural births and happy postpartum experiences. Linsey became a full-time blogger after realizing how many people she was able to help online versus in person.
Why we love it: The blog doesn’t just see pregnancy as a physical process. It recognizes that its’ an emotional and spiritual journey for so many people, as well. We’re into that.
